BANDS: Leah Mason – Chick Flick

London-based blues darling Leah Mason has been on our radar ever since she whacked up two songs onto her Myspace profile back in 2009. These were the groovy sun-tinged ‘St Antoine‘ and the uplifting melodic ‘Waiting On A Good Day‘; and we’ve been yearning for her to make more music ever since.

leah

After a brief spell of London shows and supporting Ellie Goulding on tour back in 2009, Mason took a break to concentrate on writing and perfecting a new sound. The day has now come where these sounds can now be shared with the world and we couldn’t be more delighted. Leah’s sexy, effotless, Stevie-Knicks-esque vocal weaves through twangy guitars in the new single ‘Chick Flick’ which premièred as a free download via Refinery 29 yesterday, and you can download below.

Also check out the videos for St Antoine and Waiting On A Good Day below, and watch this space as this tousle-haired songstress is about to blow the fuck up.

BANDS: Cardiknox – Wasted Youth

cardiknox

We’ve been swimming in glorious tunes today over at BXB HQ, and have stumbled upon a nugget of electro-pop gold in the form of LA Based duo Cardiknox, and their insanely catchy single ‘Wasted Youth’. A vocal lying somewhere between early Marina & The Diamonds and Charli XCX with a harder edge merges with huge electro riffs to create a sexy, bratty brand of pop we just can’t get enough of.

Currently on tour with Betty Who (championed by the ever-brilliant Neon Gold Records fam) in the US, Cardiknox are snuggling their way into the hearts and minds of audiences with their power dance moves and kaleidoscopic dream-pop. Check out the huge single ‘Wasted Youth’ below and the videos for ‘Hold Me Down’ and the amazing animated ‘Technicolour Dreaming’.

BANDS: Mapei – Don’t Wait

mapei

Sweden’s latest pop export comes in the form of the gorgeous, entrancing starlet Mapei, who’s been storming every blog, site and side walk with her recent single ‘Don’t Wait’. Full of synthy layered vocals and twangy back beats, Don’t Wait is the perfect chilled summer track, and the spoken/rap breakdown at around 2:30s in is everything right now.

Not only has the original been speeding it’s way through cyberspace, a flurry of remixes have popped up on the recently released Don’t Wait EP, including re-works from Chance The Rapper, Benny Blanco, Kingdom and Giraffe. Check out our personal favourite from Chance below.

BANDS: Dan Croll – Home (Live On Jimmy Kimmel)

dan croll

Our pal Dan Croll continued his world domination with a pitch perfect performance last night on one of the US’ biggest talk shows. Go on son!

BANDS: Kyla La Grange – Cut Your Teeth (Kygo Remix)

We’ve been fans of Kyla since her ‘Walk Through Walls’ days, and have championed the comeback of this wispy-voiced waif-angel with open arms. Her new single ‘Cut Your Teeth’ came out this week and is a charming, electro-infused, purple haired version of her older self, and we couldn’t love it more…until now. Now being, the moment we heard this gorgeously chimed summer-tinged remix from 22 year old Norwegian producer Kygo.

kyla la grange 3

You may know Kygo from such remixes as, this Ellie Goulding ‘High For This’ re-work, his Thrift Shop / No Diggity remix, or this inspired Dolly Parton re-edit of ‘Jolene’.

With the ‘Cut Your Teeth’ re-work, Kygo manages to expertly keep the essence of Kyla’s infectious, fragile chorus while adding in some delicate sunny trills to make for a delicious, balmy and down right catchy little Summer tune.

Check out Kygo on Soundcloud here, and the video for the original ‘Cut Your Teeth’ below.

BASS: Dominique Young Unique – Throw It Down

Having emerged around the time that Azealia’s ’212′ was blowing up across the world, 21 year old Tampa Bay rapper Dominique Young Unique was waiting patiently, working on her sound and contemplating her time to strike. As the last couple of years have passed (as has the Azealia fad) DYU has popped up in some serious party collaborations, alongside the likes of Diplo, Pharrell and DJ Fresh.

Having seen DYU do her thing on ‘Earthquake‘ late last year, it’s pretty clear she’s made some very clever production choices to get to this point. Her latest solo single ‘Throw It Down’ shows she can hold her own and then some, as this Florida-based starlet spits her rapid-fire rhythms over pulsating electro, with a husk-tinged vocal that dances perfectly with the beat.

DYU

Slamming drums and hard-fire horns cascade together throughout the track, and we can’t wait to throw it down on the dance floor to this one. Check out the sun-tinged street-vibe video for ‘Throw It Down’ below, and try not to bounce.

BANDS: SKY FERREIRA – YOU’RE NOT THE ONE (CID REMIX)

sky 4

It’s no secret that we’re big fans of Sky Ferreira here at BXB, so when we heard that CID RIM was doing a remix, we were pretty excited. CIR RIM did a killer edit of CHVRCHES’ Recover late last year, and does not disappoint with this excellent bouncy electro remix of Sky’s best tune ‘You’re Not The One’.

BANDS: METRONOMY – LOVE LETTERS (SOULWAX REMIX)

metronomy

Soulwax have dropped a lovely electro funk remix of Metronomy’s new single ‘Love Letters’, complete with typewriters, synths, troubling basslines and spoken weirdness. Great take on a great tune.
